1 Put the start date and the day count in their own cells
Keep the inputs separate from the formula. It makes the sheet readable, and you can change 90 to 30 or 120 without touching anything else.

4 Format it for a human, and handle a weekend landing
A raw serial number helps nobody. Format the answer, then test whether it lands on a weekend and roll it forward if your rule says so.

8.3 The awkward cases
Your date will not add. If =A2+90 returns #VALUE!, the cell holds text that looks like a date. Select the column, then Data, Text to Columns, Finish. That forces Excel to re-read every cell as a real date.
The answer shows as a number. That is correct behaviour, not an error. Excel stores 28 November 2026 as the serial number 46354. Press Ctrl+1 and pick a Date format.
Holidays in business day mode. Put your holiday dates in a column, then reference it: =WORKDAY(B2,90,$H$2:$H$12). Lock the range with dollar signs or it will slide when you copy the formula down.
A weekend that is not Saturday and Sunday. Use WORKDAY.INTL with a weekend code, or a seven character string of ones and zeros starting on Monday. "0000011" is the standard weekend and "0000110" is Friday and Saturday.
Counting the start day. If your rule counts the start date as day 1, subtract one: =B2+B3-1. Decide once, write it in a note in the sheet, and stay consistent.

Google Sheets note. Every formula above works unchanged, including WORKDAY and WORKDAY.INTL. The only real difference is that Sheets recalculates TODAY() on a timer rather than only on open, so a shared sheet can change under you at midnight.

The same method still works at 10000 days, which is over 27 years.
You want to know how far a very long counted period reaches, for a lease, an archive retention rule or a curiosity.

📏 13. How to Get Your Numbers Right
Almost every wrong answer to "what is 90 days from today" comes from a wrong input, not wrong arithmetic. These ten steps fix the inputs before you press Calculate.
- Find the real start event. A clock starts on a delivery, a signature, a posting, an invoice or a first day at work. Find the document that names the event, and use that date, not the date you happened to notice it.
- Check whether the start day counts. Look for the words "from", "after", "beginning on" and "clear days". "After" and "clear days" normally exclude the start day, which is the setting this calculator uses by default.
- Confirm today's date on the device you are using. A phone with the wrong date or a laptop set to another region will give you a confident wrong answer. The start date box shows what the tool read, so check it.
- Watch the date order. 03/08/2026 is 3 August in most of the world and 8 March in the United States. The date field on this page uses your browser's own format, so read it back before calculating.
- Decide calendar or working days once. Read the clause, choose the mode, and write down which one you chose. Switching halfway through is how five week errors happen.
- Get the right holiday list. Holidays only matter in business day mode, and only the ones your rule recognises. A national list, a state list and a company list are three different things.
- Type holidays in YYYY-MM-DD. One per line, no commas and no words. Any line that is not a date is ignored, and the field will tell you.
- Use whole days only. Part days do not exist in this kind of counting. If a rule says 90 days and 12 hours, the extra hours belong to a separate time of day rule, not to the date count.
- Ask which time zone decides. If a deadline is judged in another country, set the start date to that country's current date rather than yours. A day either way is the most common cross border mistake.
- Write down what you entered. Start date, direction, day count, day type, convention and holidays. Section 2 exports all six with the answer, which is exactly what you want if anyone questions the date later.

🔧 15. Troubleshooting and Common Errors
Why does another website give a different date for 90 days from today?
Cause: a different counting convention. Most sites, this one included, treat tomorrow as day 1. Some treat today as day 1, which makes their answer one day earlier. Fix: open Advanced options and switch the convention to match the site or the document you are comparing against. A second cause is time zone: a server on UTC can still be on yesterday's date when you are already on today's.
The result panel shows three underscores instead of a date
Cause: the page calculates today's answer as soon as it loads, so underscores mean either that a field has just been edited or that one of them failed validation. Fix: look for a red message under the input fields, correct it, then press Calculate the Date.
My results disappeared when I changed a field
Cause: that is deliberate. Editing any input clears the results so you can never read an answer that belongs to different inputs. Fix: press Calculate again after finishing your edits.
The business day answer looks far too late
Cause: ninety working days really is about 126 calendar days, because 25 or 26 weekend days are stepped over. Fix: check whether your document says calendar or working days. If it is silent, calendar days is the usual reading, but confirm it in writing.
The start date box shows yesterday's date
Cause: your device clock or time zone. The tool reads the date from the device, so it inherits any error there. Fix: check your device date and time settings, then reload. You can also type the correct start date by hand.
My holiday list seems to be ignored
Cause: holidays only apply in business days mode, and only lines written as YYYY-MM-DD are read. Holidays that already fall on a Saturday or Sunday change nothing because those days are skipped anyway. Fix: switch to business days, then rewrite each line as 2026-12-25.
The answer is exactly one day out from my lawyer or my HR team
Cause: almost always the start day convention, occasionally a roll forward rule that moves a weekend deadline to the next working day. Fix: ask which day they call day 1, set the convention to match, and ask whether a weekend landing rolls forward or backward.
The date is right but the weekday looks wrong to me
Cause: usually a mental shortcut. Ninety days is not a whole number of weeks, so the weekday moves forward by six rather than staying the same. Fix: check Table 11.1, which lists the answer weekday for every possible start weekday.
Excel gives me 46354 instead of a date
Cause: Excel stores dates as serial numbers and the cell is formatted as a number. Fix: select the cell, press Ctrl+1, choose Date. Section 8.6 lists the other Excel messages you may hit.
The charts did not draw
Cause: the chart library is loaded from a public CDN, so a blocked network, an offline machine or a strict content blocker can stop it. Fix: every number on the page is still correct without the charts. Reload on an open connection to get them back.
Which formula variant does this tool use?
Plain calendar addition on the proleptic Gregorian calendar, with real month lengths, the full leap year rule including the 400 year exception, day 1 falling on the day after the start date, and no automatic roll forward when the answer lands on a weekend. Business day mode removes Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays you list. Every one of those choices is visible on the page and can be changed except the calendar itself.
Can I trust this for a legal deadline?
Cause of doubt: counting rules are set by contracts and by local law, not by calculators. Fix: use the tool to get the counted date, then confirm the convention and any roll forward rule with the person or office that will enforce it. Export the result so your assumptions are on record.
⚠ 16. Assumptions and Limitations
- Day 1 is the day after the start date. If your rule counts the start day itself, every answer is one day too late until you switch the convention in Advanced options.
- Today comes from your device. If the device clock or time zone is wrong, the answer is wrong by a day in that direction. Type the start date by hand to remove the risk.
- The Gregorian calendar is assumed throughout. Dates before its adoption in your country will not match historical records. The error can be as much as thirteen days.
- Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Where the working week is Sunday to Thursday, the business day answer will be wrong. Use calendar mode and adjust by hand, or use a tool with a custom weekend setting.
- Holidays are only what you type. No public holiday list is built in, because holidays differ by country, region and employer. Missing holidays make the business answer too early.
- No roll forward is applied. If the counted date lands on a weekend or a holiday, the tool reports it as it is and names the weekday. Rules that move a deadline to the next working day must be applied by you.
- Whole days only. Times of day, hours and daylight saving shifts are outside the calculation. A span quoted as 2160 hours is nominal, since one day in the span may be 23 or 25 hours long.
- Months are never approximated. Real lengths are always used, so any answer that assumes a 30 day month will disagree with this one. That is the other tool being wrong, not this one.
- The day count is capped at 10000. That is about 27 years, and it keeps the business day loop instant. Longer spans need a different approach.
- This is a calendar tool, not advice. It cannot know your contract, your jurisdiction or your regulator. For anything with legal, medical or financial consequences, confirm the date with the party that will enforce it.
Where a limitation matters, the better tool is named: a month based date calculator for periods written in months, an age calculator for years, months and days, an hours calculator for times of day, and a business day calculator with a custom weekend for working weeks that are not Monday to Friday.
